Overview

This document is not a comprehensive guide to URL rewriting or proxies. It is a simple how-to guide for getting started with URL simplification quickly.

The standard LiveServer URL is complex, as shown in the following example:

http://LiveServer:8080/cps/rde/xchg/SID-3F57D3D4-3879A90/project/hs.xsl/content.htm

Each component of the URL maps to a specific input to create LiveServer delivery.

Common components include protocol, server name (or IP address), port, Tomcat context, servlet, weblet, session ID, project, XSL stylesheet, and content. The parameters vary depending on the requirements or functionality of an application.To simplify URLs, you need to change a few LiveServer settings using additional
technologies. This document focuses on two popular Web servers that allow URL rewriting with pass through and proxying:

• Apache Web Server (Apache)
• Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS)
